This was an extremely treacherous journey and I cannot explain the relief I felt at reaching the shelter! I was forced to skip the shelter next to underhang due to being unable to reach the poles necessary to get to the hibernation pod. This may be the most impressive cycle I've done yet, and I'm sure nobody else has bothered to take a turtle to underhang, so this video is pretty one of a kind.

(edit, 12/22/17) so after doing such a long journey I went through the Five Pebbles gate, excited to finally of reached my destination after countless attempts! But I soon realized that the snail weighed too much for me to enter the reigon since I couldn't reach the poles at the gate linking to the reigon. I could hardly believe it, all those hours of trying for nothing. I deleted the save reluctantly and moved on to doing other random stuff in rain world. But then about a week later I discovered how to easily recreate a backflip off a pole, and with the snailturtle's enhanced jumping it gave me, I could probably do a backflip off a pole at the gate and reach the actual reigon! I quickly tried this at the subterranean-shoreline gate which had the same gap in the poles in it, and in a few tries I'd reached subterranean with the snail, and successfully backflipped off the pole to get there. I then restarted and did the entire agonizing journey all over again, and eventually made it to Five Pebbles with the snailturtle! (hence the 'taking a snail to 5p playlist)
